“Then the Lord God formed the man of dust from the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living creature.” Genesis 2:7

A Biblical Introduction to Breath of Life Salve

In the beginning the Lord God formed man from the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and man became a living soul. He also appointed the oils of the earth, the work of the bee, and the fragrant herbs of the field, that they might be used to anoint and to restore.

This salve is named Breath of Life, a humble anointing prepared to support the chest and the breath, that what the Lord first gave may continue to flow freely.

Net Wt. 2 oz (56 g)

Coconut Oil (Cocos nucifera) — the rich oil of the palm, a carrier of warmth and comfort, recalling the oils used to anoint and to heal, that the skin might receive what is needful.

Beeswax

(from Apis mellifera) — the patient labor of the bee, who gathers from the flowers and builds what is lasting. As the Promised Land was said to flow with milk and honey, so this wax holds the gifts together and seals them upon the skin.

Menthol (from Mentha × piperita) — the cooling essence of mint, whose sharp, living breath opens the airways and refreshes, even as the mint of the Scriptures was tithed in its smallest measure.

Thyme (Thymus vulgaris) — the small, fragrant leaf of the garden, akin in spirit to the hyssop of purification, whose virtue has long been trusted to support the breath and to cleanse.

Rosemary (Salvia rosmarinus) — the evergreen herb of remembrance, whose pine-like fragrance lifts the spirit and steadies the mind, a reminder that the Lord remembers His own and does not forget.

Allspice (Pimenta dioica) — the warming berry that carries the scent of many spices in one, a hidden fire of the earth that comforts the chest and stirs circulation.

Camphor (Cinnamomum camphora) — the clarifying resin of the camphor tree, whose penetrating coolness opens and awakens, a sharp mercy that helps the breath to move more freely.

Together they form an anointing of stillness and strength: cooling yet warming, fragrant yet humble, a small reminder that the same God who first breathed life still watches over the breath of His children.

Apply it with thanksgiving. Let it rest upon the chest. Sit in quiet and remember: “The Spirit of God has made me, and the breath of the Almighty gives me life.”

May this salve be a small sacrament of restored breath, that everything that has breath may praise the Lord.
