You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows.”— Psalm 23:5
A Biblical Introduction to This Tea Blend
In the beginning the Lord God formed the earth and caused it to bring forth every herb yielding seed after its kind. He gave the green things of the field for food and for healing, that their leaves might be for the restoration of the body and the quieting of the soul.
From the gardens of His making come these six gifts, blended together as a cup of mercy:
Peppermint (Mentha piperita) the mint of which the Law spoke, tithed even in the smallest leaf. Its cool breath refreshes the mouth and settles the inner parts, as living water cools the weary traveler.
Chamomile (Matricaria chamomilla) the humble flower that opens its face to the sun and then closes in the evening, teaching us to rest. Its gentle infusion stills the restless heart and invites the peace that the world cannot give.
Lavender — fragrant as the anointing oils and the spices of the Song, its purple spikes lift the spirit and quiet the anxious mind, like the fragrance of a garden after rain.
Ginger — the warming root that kindles the fire within, easing the stomach and strengthening the traveler on the way, a reminder that even the hidden things of the earth are appointed for our good.
Feverfew — the small daisy-like herb that has long been gathered to ease the aching head, a modest plant whose virtue is known by those who have walked through days of affliction.
Lemon Balm — the balm that soothes, bright with the scent of lemon yet belonging to the mint family, restoring cheer and lifting the spirit as a cheerful heart is good medicine.
Together they form a cup of stillness: cooling yet warming, fragrant yet humble, a small reminder that the Creator who clothes the lilies and numbers the hairs of our head has also provided these simple leaves for our comfort.
Come, then, and drink. Let the steam rise like incense. Sit in the quiet and remember: “He makes me lie down in green pastures; He leads me beside still waters. He restores my soul.”
May this blend be a small sacrament of rest, a daily reminder that every good and perfect gift comes down from the Father of lights.
