In the beginning the Lord God formed man from the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and man became a living soul. He also caused the earth to bring forth herbs whose leaves and roots were appointed for healing, that the breath within us might remain clear and our praise unhindered.

From His generous garden come these seven gifts, gathered and blended as a cup of restoration:

Mullein Leaf (Verbascum thapsus) — the tall, soft-leaved sentinel of the field, whose velvety foliage has long been used to soothe the chest and open the way of the breath, even as the Lord makes a way through every wilderness.

Marshmallow Root (Althaea officinalis) — the humble mallow whose mucilage coats and comforts, recalling the mallows gathered in days of hardship, yet here given as a gentle covering for the throat and lungs.

Licorice Root (Glycyrrhiza glabra) — the sweet root that eases and moistens, a reminder that the Lord’s words are sweeter than honey and that He provides what is needful for those who wait upon Him.

Elecampane Root (Inula helenium) — the warming, aromatic root that has been trusted to support the deep places of the chest, strengthening the weary traveler and helping the breath to flow more freely.

Peppermint Leaf (Mentha × piperita) — the mint of which the Scriptures speak, tithed even in its smallest measure, whose cool, lively spirit refreshes the mouth and airways like a breeze after rain.

Ginger Root (Zingiber officinale) — the fiery root that kindles warmth within, circulating life and comfort, a hidden treasure of the earth appointed for our good.

Thyme Leaf (Thymus vulgaris) — the fragrant herb of the mint family, akin in spirit to the hyssop of purification, whose small leaves have been used to cleanse and support the breath, that we might once more lift our voices in praise.

Together they form a cup of clear air and quiet strength: soothing yet warming, humble yet potent, a daily reminder that the same God who breathed life into Adam still watches over the breath of His children.

Come, then, and drink. Let the steam rise. Sit in stillness and remember: “The Spirit of God has made me, and the breath of the Almighty gives me life.”

May this blend be a small sacrament of restored breath, that everything that has breath may praise the Lord.

Directions:

Place 1 tea bag in your cup.

Pour 8–10 oz (240–300 ml) of boiling water over the tea bag.

Cover and steep for 15–20 minutes.

Remove the tea bag and enjoy.

For additional enjoyment, stir in a teaspoon of raw honey while warm. Drink 1–3 cups daily as desired.
